Guided tour: walk and small stories in Montpellier occitan
The Promenade du Peyrou is a 4.59 ha esplanade located west of the Écusson district in the city of Montpellier, on the edge of the former «commune-clôture» enclosure. This complex, classified among the Historical Monuments, represents a combination of five works: the promenade and its terraces allowing to contemplate the Cevennes and the Pyrenees which was built in 1689, the Porte du Peyrou or the Arc de Triomphe with its bridge and access ramps, made in 1691, the equestrian statue of Louis XIV erected in 1718, the aqueduct Saint-Clément and its reservoir built in 1753, the water tower whose project was retained in 1766, the child and lion statues of Injalbert and the gates of the entrances in 1832\\. Later, in 1927, the construction of an analemmatic sundial, realized at the initiative of Pr Pierre Humbert and in 1939, the taking of the symbolic photo of the resistant Jean Moulin. Major renovations have been carried out since the 1980s to preserve the site.
