Guided tours of the Basilica and its Museum of ex-voto
The site of Notre-Dame de Marceille, located on a hill overlooking the city, is accessible by a paved alley that runs along the «miraculous spring», which is supposed to cure the ailments of the eyes. The basilica is located in a park (14th). It houses a statue of the Virgin and Child (15th century), many ex-votos, a black Virgin and a pulpit to preach (17th-18th century). Its architecture is typical of the southern Gothic style. The basilica, a jewel of the twelfth century, which was once a high place of pilgrimage similar to Lourdes (for the so-called miraculous spring and the Black Virgin), benefited from important renovation works, thanks to the association of friends of the basilica Notre-Dame de Marceille. Two stages of work have been completed to date, the first concerning a new electrical installation, the renovation of the sacristy and the creation of an emergency exit, the second, the renovation of the bedside and the creation of a museum of ex-voto.
