The Château de Guingamp was the subject of an archaeological excavation in 2005\\. This first complete excavation of a castle revealed structures often little known or even unprecedented. It provides first-rate data for the knowledge of the evolution of castral architecture in the West. One can thus discover: the Motte (XIth), the first transformations from XIIth to XIIIth century, the fortress of artillery (XVth).
