Overview

This year again, free guided tours of the castle and its park will take place in partnership with the Tourist Office of Roubaix. The Château de la Fontaine is a majestic 19th century residence in a 4 ha park that houses the Fontaine Institute. It dates from the Middle Ages and has undergone many changes over the centuries until its entire reconstruction following the First World War. Its facades and roof, classified in the inventory of Historical Monuments in 1951, are of Flemish mannerism style. The site is an interesting witness to the rural, sociological, cultural and architectural history of the Lille region for 700 years. The Warwamme wood adjoining the castle is considered one of the largest green lungs of the metropolis. The park houses remarkable trees including a plane tree of 6m50 in circumference planted at the time of the French Revolution.
