Free visits are not allowed. The family of Ternay welcomes you personally for a guided tour full of humor and passion. The restoration works of the remarkable facade of the courtyard of honor are completed. If you arrive too early before the departure of the visit, the park, with its hundred-year-old trees, is also a beautiful discovery that is worth the detour alone! The castle of Ternay is a living heritage that offers different activities, such as the reception of school groups for educational days, magnificent guest houses and large cottages to welcome tourists from around the world. The castle is furnished and inhabited by the family of Ternay for more than 400 years, which confers a thorough knowledge of its history, whether it is dark, glorious or romantic. The Château de Ternay is a listed building, considered a small treasure of the Loire Valley and Poitou. It was built by the knight Bertrand de Beauvau for the beautiful eyes of Princess Françoise de Brézé. His military acts, his career as a diplomat and creditor at the court of the dukes of Anjou and the kings of France, allow Bertrand de Beauvau to amass a considerable fortune. It was in 1439 that construction work began on his castle at Ternay: the shape of an irregular quadrangle enclosing an inner courtyard, a tower at each corner, all surrounded by a deep moat and a strong wall. The donjon is a hexagonal construction of remarkable proportions. The chapel is considered, despite its small size, as a marvel of Gothic art. The inner courtyard consists of two superposed galleries, delicate and refined. Since its construction, part of the decoration of the castle has changed according to the tastes and notions of comfort of the people who lived there. The other part (chapel, donjon and loggia of the courtyard) has remained as it was in the 15th century. Informations Over 18 years old: 5 €. Free for others.
