Overview

Joseph Diongre is best known for the Flagey building, the town hall in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert and villas in the east of Brussels. But it was in the west that he showed his popular side. His economical, efficient approach to construction lent itself perfectly to public contracts of a social nature: Saint-Jean-Baptiste church in Molenbeek, the garden cities of Cité Diongre and Moortebeek, the Cour Saint-Lazare apartment block, his work for Foyer Laekenois, etc. Even in the ’luxurious’ Withuis, he used inexpensive materials in a building of modest dimensions. In this activity, the guide will take you on a bike tour of Diongre’s achievements in the west of Brussels, comparing them with each other and with the work of other architects. In collaboration with Brukselbinnenstebuiten. Participants must bring their own bikes. Photographs are permitted, provided no individuals are photographed.
