Overview

For Heritage Week 2025, Abbeyleix Heritage House in collaboration with Abbeyleix Historical Society, is hosting a series of fascinating talks to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the town. These talks take place over two evenings Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th August covering a variety of interesting subjects related to the town of Abbeyleix going right back to when the town was first established in 1775. All welcome to come along, listen and enjoy! The talks taking place on Monday 18th August are listed below: TALK 1: Abbeyleix Workhouse Historian David Broderick will give a history of Abbeyleix Workhouse during the Famine, drawing comparisons with similar sites he has studied in Ireland and the UK. TALK 2: School Days of the Past Heather Crean, Abbleyleix Heritage House Research Assistant, will deliver a talk about School Days of the Past. TALK 3: Loan Fund Society, 1838-1850 Michael Lynch
