The history of the building is linked to the fortifications of Toul and its traditional military vocation. This casemate or barracks-casemate dates from 1883-1884\\. It belongs to a group located on either side of the Porte Moselle (door of the Vauban enclosure) rebuilt at the same time. The whole enclosure is classified as historical monuments in 1941.
