Historical Walk and Talk and ‘Little Pickers’ Trash Trail
We are inviting kids and parents to an event focused on environmental awareness, local history, heritage and water quality in our brook.
The fun and educational event will encompass a ‘Trash ‘Trail’ where children aged between 2-12 years, accompanied by parents, will collect strategically placed commonly littered items along a heritage walk. The children and parents will then return with the items, which will be tipped out and the environmental detrimental effects explained to them.
The route will start at our Community Garden and will take in historical sites within St. Catherine’s Estate, including The Portico of Kenure House, The Yew Tree walk, The Fairy Trail, The Brook, The Ice Houses, Holy Well, Kenure Church Ruins and the Tower House.
The event will be concluded with little prizes for the children and refreshments at ‘The Patch’.
We will be spending some time in the community garden showing the children the plants, fruits and vegetables. We will also be conducting a ‘Kick Test’ in the brook.
