House Tenaerts, Avenue Coghen 28
Although laid out as early as 1879, Avenue Coghen was not heavily urbanised until the 1930s. This is where architect Louis Tenaerts made his entrance. Used to working on housing complexes, he was commissioned to construct 16 houses and an apartment block. Together with the dwellings on the adjacent streets, including one of his masterpieces on Rue de la Seconde Reine, there are almost 30 constructions! Designed in 1935 in an Art Deco, Streamline Moderne style, the facade of No. 28 features a semi-cylindrical projection over the entrance door, accentuated by an overhanging cornice. A wooden pergola crowns the first-floor terrace. Painted black, the frames and ironwork are in bitonal harmony with the bright white rendered facade. Photographs are not permitted.
