Information Day - Boyne Navigation Restoration Plans
The purpose of the presentation is to outline our plan for the restoration of the Boyne Navigation and to seek your support for its restoration.
The Boyne navigation is a navigable waterway or system linking Drogheda to Navan comprising a combination of river sections and still water canal sections with 18 locks, a fall of 27m from the summit at Navan to Drogheda and extending over 30 km. It was begun almost 300 years ago in 1748 as an industrial development for the region and succeeded but it did not fulfil its full potential because of occasional closures due to winter floods and low water in summer. It was eventually overtaken by the railway and finally by road transport.
