Irish Waterways Transport Tour
Join our knowledgeable guide Thomas for a special outdoor tour around the grounds of The Custom House. Using Edward Smyth’s famous River God keystone heads, he will be explaining how Ireland’s rivers were used as transport routes throughout the history of the island from the Stone Age to the present day.
From settlers to conquerors, arrivals to Ireland nearly always used our rivers to travel inland. Many of Ireland’s imports and exports until very recently used our rivers as a means to get to the Irish Sea and Atlantic Ocean. People also used our waterways as a means of transport from A to B.
Smyth’s wonderful keystones also have many symbols of the kinds of Irish waterway transport over the years, your guide over this hour long tour will be delving into all that too and making the connections between the two.
Tickets are free, but booking via Eventrbrite link below is essential.
