Ivy Cottage - Karen Tweed
13 September 2025 (10:00 - 18:00) 14 September 2025 (10:00 - 18:00) Artist and musician, Karen Tweed, welcomes visitors to her cottage and garden. She will be there from 10am - 6pm both days to welcome people and show them around. My event celebrates a cottage on the outskirts of Orphir village in Orkney - which is famous for the Earl’s Bu and it’s runes -and Orphir parish which witnessed much unrest and battles from medieval times. My cottage was a blacksmith’s cottage and still retains the outer walls and original stonework - it looks out onto Scapa Flow which has huge wartime heritage. Inside, I have used the structure and light to create murals and floorals, based on my walk to school (in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire) which took me along many streets named after poets, thus instilling a great love of poetry from an early age. The interior decor embraces colour, a Francis Boag-inspired painted floor and wall, plus various inspirational lines from poets and scientists. Parking is limited to 5 cars at a time. Water bottles can be filled up. Folk can stay as long as they like and there is a garden for sitting in, too.
