Our Conservation Architect, Fiona Sinclair, will take a conducted tour of the building, pointing out the salient external features.
At the end, visitors will be able to view the inside of Entrance 2 stairwell.
Apart from the art deco lighting in the stairwell, there will be a small display on art deco in general, and the art deco features of Kelvin Court in particular, along with drawings and pre-construction plans.
We also plan to compile an online gallery of images on the Kelvin Court website, which along with written descriptions, will enable interested individuals to learn about our architect, James Fatkin, art deco and the art deco features of Kelvin Court in particular in more detail. www.kelvincourt.net

Overview:
Kelvin Court is a remarkable representation of Scottish Art Deco architecture. This distinctive two-block residential complex, designed by James Newton Fatkin - renowned for his cinema designs - was completed in 1938.
Comprising 101 flats, many of the flats preserve original features that exemplify the stylistic nuances of the Art Deco movement, including ornate cornicing, stained glass features and vitrolite bathrooms. Such defining elements contribute to Kelvin Court's status as a significant cultural landmark in Glasgow.
Coincidentally, this year also commemorates the 100th anniversary of Art Deco, a style that emerged following the 1925 Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris.

Access to the building is unfortunately limited as it comprises private flats.
