Overview

18 September 2025 (11:00 - 16:00) Two guided tours (morning and afternoon) to a purpose-built viewing platform for the Keystone building, which will be completed in 2028. This platform, on the edge of an expansive active construction site, provides a unique opportunity to see what will be the University’s second-largest building in its earliest stages. On completion, like the rest of the Western Campus, the ground floor of the building will be open to the public. Overview The University of Glasgow is currently building the Keystone Building, which will be the fifth building delivered in its £1bn campus development programme, on the site of the former Western Infirmary Hospital. The Keystone Building will be a world-class facility dedicated to learning, teaching and research, accommodating around 3,600 students. Alongside general learning and teaching areas, the Keystone building will house a range of dry and wet lab spaces, as well as high-spec computing labs. It will also provide a maker’s workshop and research facilities for the University of Glasgow’s James Watt School of Engineering. The Keystone will be the University’s most sustainable building, aiming to achieve ‘BREEAM Excellent’ certification, along with ambitious energy use targets. The viewing platform is 2.4m above ground level and access includes the use of stairs. The platform is within an active construction site, which may generate dust and be noisy, so appropriate safety measures will be in place. While personal protective equipment (PPE) is not generally required, we ask that you be sure to wear flat footwear with a grip. If you feel you may benefit from ear protection or other safety equipment, please get in touch at Campus-Development@glasgow.ac.uk.
