LECTURE / Urban Solution for Osijek City Center in the Work of Albert Esch

Overview

Osijek was among the rare Croatian cities that arranged its center in the 1920s through an international competition. The architectural-urban competition covered unbuilt and unplanned empty space around the former military fortress (Tvrđa), and the first prize for its arrangement was won by the competition work of landscape architect Albert Esch. Albert Esch was one of the most significant garden architects in Vienna who devoted his working life to designing gardens and landscape arrangement. The lecture discusses the significance of this urban solution for the development of Osijek.
