Con esta exposición hemos querido recuperar la memoria de los lavaderos que hubo en Lekeitio. A partir del siglo XIX se construyeron lavaderos en casi todos los municipios para limpiar la ropa y otros tejidos. Este duro trabajo lo realizaban las mujeres, primero a orillas del río, después en los lavaderos. Era un trabajo imprescindible para mantener la salud y la calidad de vida de la población. Estos centros de trabajo se convirtieron también en espacios para la socialización de las mujeres, sacando al espacio público el trabajo reproductivo doméstico.

With this exhibition we wanted to recover the memory of the washing places that existed in Lekeitio. From the 19th century onwards, washing places were built in almost all the municipalities to clean clothes and other fabrics. This hard work was done by women, first on the banks of the river, then in the washing places. It was essential work to maintain the health and quality of life of the population. These work centers also became spaces for women's socialization, taking domestic reproductive work out of the public space.
