6 September 2025 (09:15 - 17:00) 7 September 2025 (11:30 - 13:30) Built in 1914, Lanark Library started as a free library and museum, left by Charles Lindsay. The building is located on Hope Street, a short distance from the Sheriff Court and a few minutes walk from the main shopping area. For Doors Open Days there will be the opening of the Archive and Local History Room and exhibition of Forrest Scrapbook and books from the Smellie Collection all day Saturday 6th - booking not required. The Forrest Scrapbook provides some of the inspiration for the play The Needle Room which will be staged around Clydesdale by local theatre group Braw Clan later in September. There will also be guided tours of the library at 11:30am and 1:30pm on both days - booking required. NB: the library is closed between 12:30pm and 1:30pm on Saturday 6th. The ground floor (where toilets as well as Archive and Local History Room are located) can be accessed by ramp, however the first floor can only be accessed with stairs (part of the heritage tour will take place upstairs).
