Langside Community Heritage
20 September 2025 (10:00 - 15:30) 21 September 2025 (12:00 - 16:00) Guided walk around the streets of Langside/Battlefield. Highlighting Langside in the 1940s and the stories of the people who lived here through World War II, those who saw conflict overseas and on the home front, and the refugees who came to live here. We'll explore the shops and businesses, transport modes and systems, schools, places of worship, institutions and the places of entertainment which kept people going through these difficult years and we'll consider the sights, sounds and smells of a very different Langside to the one we know today. Most of all, we'll hear the stories of the local people who served their country during WWII, especially the individuals who are commemorated on the Battlefield West Church (now Langside Parish Church) war memorial. The walk will take in many familiar Langside locations along with some less well-known places, with lots of stops at the homes of the characters featured in the stories. Battle of Langside guided walk. Explore the events leading up to the battle, and what happened on 13th May 1568. Walk across the site of the fighting and imagine the scene on the day. Learn what led to Mary’s defeat and what she did next. Overview Langside Community Heritage is a charitable organisation dedicated to the exploration of the historical and archaeological past of the southside of Glasgow. Toilet facilities are available at the starting point for the guided walk. There are numerous shops and cafes on the line of the walking tour. On-road parking is available locally.
