Built in 1687 to house the books of Bishop Leighton for the clergy of Dunblane, it later became a subscription library. After closing in the mid-19th Century, volunteers opened it as a visitor attraction in 1990. Visitors can ‘handle history’. It has recently undergone the first stage of a major restoration. Access is to the undercroft as there are forestairs to the library on the upper floor.
