Guided tour of the castle of Montaut-les-Créneaux
Montaut-les-Créneaux is a 12th century castelnau that has preserved many traces of its history. Most remains of the past are classified. Following the round path, one can see the castle (private) with the crenellated square keep that is at the origin of the name of «Montaut-les-Créneaux». The surrounding wall, the houses of the village line up on each side of the square. They are mostly built of limestone rubble. Their corbels and half-timbers are beautifully preserved. The Romanesque church dedicated to Saint-Michel deserves to be visited; beautiful frescoes adorn the walls. From the small gardens dotted in the village to the hiking trails that radiate around Montaut-les-Créneaux, nature is very present here. Walking paths lead to the wood of Pilhat, the chapel of Biane or the suburb of Malartic. On the way, the views of the countryside and the nearby Auch are magnificent.
