Let’s Learn Together – The Big Pond Dip at Drummin Bog, Carlow
What’s Living in Drummin Bog? Join us pond-dipping & learning about bugs, larvae, frogs, newts, lizards on Drummin Bog under the guidance of the National Reptile Zoo. We will be dipping the pond and drains on Drummin bog to see what is living under the waters, with the help of experts from National Reptile Zoo. We will collect, identify and learn about what we find. We will also keep an eye out for frogs and lizards, hear about their life cycles including the smooth newts. Also, hear about Drummin Bog, our plans for it and about the importance of bogs and their biodiversity and for climate change.
Meet at Drummond Hall at 11.00.
Tea & coffee and brief chat about what we will be doing on the Bog, how to dip, what we hope to find and general induction to the bog and health and safety.
11.30/45 Carpool/walk down to the bog (depending on numbers). There is limited car parking at the bog.
12.00 - 2.00 Pond dipping and identification of critters and learning about the life forms found on the bog and about the bog.
2.00 Car pool/walk back to hall
Bring boots/coats etc. The bog is a wet place, the terrain is difficult and pond dipping involves working in and around water so be prepared to get wet and dirty and dress accordingly. **Bring a packed lunch to keep you going on the Bog.
