Koekelberg's first town hall was built in 1882 to plans by architect Delplace. It was remodelled in 1903, but did not take on its current appearance until 1939, when architect Henri-Aimé Jacobs was commissioned to modernise the existing building. The yellow Dauchot brick facades are part of a resolutely geometric Art Deco style. The decorative bas-reliefs in white stone are the work of statuary artist Georges Vandevoorde and depict episodes from daily life. At the far end of the grand entrance hall, the main staircase, in Rance marble, illustrates the care Jacobs took with the interior decoration, designing the beautiful ironwork and the large stained-glass window he commissioned from master stained-glass artist Égide Timmermans. He designed an Art Deco-style floral garland flanked by a border of stylised stems. This same garland rises on either side towards the central motif, the coat of arms of the former Duchy of Brabant, now the simplified coat of arms of the Kingdom of Belgium: Sable, a golden lion armed and red-tongued. Several stained-glass windows with illuminated cartouches also adorn the board room. Photographs are permitted, but only with smartphones.
