Lough Eske Heritage Walk
Walk in the footsteps of the O’Donnells on a heritage trail through Lough Eske.
Learn about important historical sites along the route including the ruins of the 14th century O’Donnell Tower House Castle and O’Donnell Isle prison.
Along the picturesque walk on the shores of Lough Eske you’ll hear about the area’s connections to 'The O'Donaill' and how the old castle had a part in the beginning of the end of Tirconaill's (Donegal's) Gaelic aristocracy in the 17th century.
You will be guided through this 5km heritage trail by knowledgeable local speakers, hearing about the locality's rich built, cultural and oral history along the route.
The walk will start and finish at the site of the Famine Pot car park (54.692658, -8.064204) at 7pm on Friday 23 August 2024.
There will be light refreshments and entertainment at nearby Harvey’s Point Hotel following the walk.
A voluntary donation of €5 per adult will be used for future heritage events and community initiatives.
The route is suitable for most ages and is mainly along a gravel path but participants may want to wear walking shoes and rainwear as appropriate.
