Overview

Come join us at the Kings Island Community Centre for a unique National Heritage Week event exploring the links between the landscape and local folklore.

*Booking tickets on Eventbrite is essential.*

We will begin with a talk from folklorist and writer Heather Canfield (@heather.wildflower) about her search for local legends of the Goddess Sionna, and all the other wonderful tales of the Shannon river she's encountered in her search for its namesake.

Then we will take a short sunset walk along the river to the nearby Verdant Place Bathing Area. This is where King's Island residents have come to connect with the Shannon river for centuries. There you can immerse a hand or foot in the river (or even take a quick dip if you'd like) to have a full multisensory experience of the legends we just explored.

Together we will watch the sunset colors bloom over the river as we discuss the local tales of goddesses, foxes, wells, and magic.

One thing is for sure, you'll look at the Shannon river in a whole new way after this event.
