National Galleries Scotland: Modern One is the art gallery which is home to all things contemporary. Visitors can discover displays, shows and installations from the leading artists of today, including the striking land feature in front of the gallery designed by landscape architect Charles Jencks, and other sculptures waiting to be discovered in the gallery’s beautiful grounds. Modern One is also the building where the National Galleries of Scotland’s conservation studios are located.
Have you ever wondered about the behind-the-scenes conservation work that goes on in the studios of the National Galleries of Scotland? This is your opportunity to visit the studios, meet the conservators and find out about the activity they undertake to care for the collection and prepare it for exhibitions and loans. We will show you some work in progress and explain what the conservation process involves.

Modern One is a historic building with many interesting architectural features, and our tours will include some information about the building’s history.

This event is a visit to the conservation studios, which are in a building housing an art exhibition. The exhibition is free to visit and includes some quiet spaces. The gardens outside the gallery offer additional opportunities for quiet spaces, recreation and picnics. The building has lockers, and water bottles can be filled free of charge at the cafe.
