The church of Sarcenas is attested around 1100 , in the cartulary of Saint Hughes, under the name of Saint Barthelemy de Cercenas. It is reported only as a secondary church, or chapel, dependent on the priory of Saint Robert de Cornillon. During the Middle Ages, it became a parish church. It is accompanied by a curial house, but Sarcenas no longer has a parish priest in residence from about 1860\\. Therefore it is that of the Sappey who ensures the masses.
