Overview

The "Maison Henri II", built around 1555 for Hugues Pontard, king’s prosecutor, is a unique masterpiece of the French Renaissance.

Monumental facade without depth, it was designed as a pure decor, a fabulous "theater of architecture" intended to impress the guests, with its galleries adorned with rich antique decorations and false dormers simulating a house. Contrary to its name, this building was not a house to live in, but a space of representation, adjacent to the real home of Pontard—a half-timbered house whose entrance gives onto rue Chaudrier. It is in the left pavilion of this set, once a simple study, that one finds today Intermondes, a place of residencies and artistic creations focused on the ocean humanities. Informations Free.
