PLAY - an intimate immersive experience in the hidden spaces of The Moat Theatre, Naas
An intimate immersive experience taking place in the hidden spaces of The Moat Theatre — Shakespeare’s Hamlet intersects with the fabric of the building, the history of the Moat Club and its members and the echoes of many rehearsals past. As they mark their 70th Anniversary, follow the trail of generations of actors from the Club and hear their memories of how the building brought them together. In the aftermath of his father’s death, Hamlet must face the devastating grief he feels, sharpened by the rage he feels towards his uncle for trying to position himself as a new father figure. PLAY is a piece about grief and loss - of your father… or of your friends. It is about the importance of shared identity and a place like the Moat Club for and in a community. Though rife with betrayal and revenge, the father-son relationship at the core of this strand of Hamlet is as recognisable now as it was in 1600. PLAY is returning after its sold-out run in Culture Night 2023 and following the success of 'This House is Elsinore' at Culture Night 2022. It is presented by Darn Skippy Productions and supported by Creative Ireland and the Kildare Arts Service. The piece lasts approximately 75 minutes. Patrons will be moving through the building throughout the performance including up and down stairs - unforturnately no universally accessible alternative is available. Some seating is availalbe at times during the performance.
