Plant Passions & Poetry: Bantry Bookshop Event

Bantry Bookshop, Co. Cork County
Show on the map
20 August 2025
Overview

Readings and musings on our wild plant world by poet Clare Goulet and writer, actor and director Karen Minihan. Hosted by historian Finola Finlay.

This event will focus on the power of the spoken and written word to ignite and express our passion for the natural world and the plant life we need to protect and cherish.

Clare Goulet is a Canadian/British poet, editor and educator who stumbled across Ellen when she was researching lichens, and was inspired by her life and work. Visiting us from Nova Scotia, where she teaches at Mount St Vincent University, she will read from her latest volume, Graphis scripta/writing lichens.

Karen and Finola are long-term collaborators with the Festival, exploring Ellen’s life through her own words. For this event, using the shelves of Bantry Bookshop, they select and present readings by contemporary, mostly Irish writers who are passionate about our wild plants. Karen’s latest book is More Extraordinary, Ordinary Women: Untold Stories from the Founding of the State, and Finola writes the popular arts and culture Blog, Roaringwater Journal.
