Led by local historian and archaeologist Barry Lacey, this tour explores turbulent times in Ferns’ past. Learn about the 1798 rebellion including rebel leader Fr. John Murphy. Explore how Ferns was one of a few locations outside of Dublin involved in the 1916 Easter Rising. Hear stories about raids, ambushes and shootings during the Irish War of Independence and delve into the complexities and tragedies of the Irish Civil War. The tour will be about 1 hour 30mins long Meeting at the entrance to St. Edan's Cathedral, at the bottom of Ferns Village.
