The Renaissance is a period in European cultural history, inspired by the culture of the ancient Graeco-Roman world; hence renaissance = rebirth. This style originated in 14th century Italy and spread to large parts of Europe in subsequent centuries. In the Mosan region – Maasland, including Maastricht – this style manifested itself with the building materials of the region: red bricks, yellow sandstone and ‘blue’ hardstone. We will take a walk of one and a half hour to see the buildings from the 16th and 17th century in Maasland Renaissance style.
