We are a community garden based in Renfrew, offering a welcoming and inclusive growing space for local residents. Our mission is to support the community through a range of initiatives that address food poverty, promote sustainability, encourage recycling, and help reduce the local carbon footprint.
We provide meaningful volunteer opportunities and offer affordable plot rentals, enabling members to grow their own produce while fostering a sense of community and self-reliance. Each year, we cultivate produce from seed and maintain four dedicated community plots. The fruit and vegetables grown are distributed among local residents and donated to the local food bank, ensuring access to fresh, healthy food for those who need it most.
Broadloan Gardens will be open to the public on Saturday 6th, offering visitors the opportunity to explore the site at their leisure. Guests will be invited to discover the various areas within the garden, including individual growing plots, communal flower beds, community cultivation spaces, and a dedicated children’s play area.
Fresh produce grown on-site will be available by donation, and light refreshments will also be provided. The day will offer an opportunity for the public to learn more about the work we do within the community, the services we offer, and our ongoing aims to promote sustainability, food security, and community wellbeing.
On Sunday 7th, we will also be hosting our annual Gala Day, a community celebration featuring a barbecue, live music, refreshments, home baking, and fresh produce from the garden. The event will also include a range of activities for children and additional attractions for all ages to enjoy.
Broadloan Gardens is an outdoor venue with level access from the entrance gate. Most of the main paths are gravel, Monoblock or grass growing on top of gravelled areas and may be uneven in places, which could pose some difficulty for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility, particularly in wet weather. There is seating available throughout the site, and toilet facilities (portaloo) are available nearby on-site. We will have volunteers on hand to assist visitors as needed.
