STONE WORKING
Traditional Mayo stonemason Dominic Keogh will host a talk and walk on the history of stone working in Ireland. Dominic will begin the day at 11am with a demonstration and practical display of the tools and techniques of traditional letter cutting and stone cutting, followed by a talk from 12 to 2pm. Dominic will describe the development of stone working, from our megalithic tombs, dry stone walling traditions, vernacular farmhouses all the way through to the grand architecture of Enniscoe house and gardens.
The talk will be followed by a walk around the grounds (weather permitting) picking out the unique architectural details around the farmyard and gardens. You can also find out about our forthcoming Dry Stone Walling for Beginners Weekend Workshops, the first of which will be in September.
Dominic Keogh, from Memento Mori Stonework, is a multidisciplinary stonemason and conservation worker. He specialises in traditional stonemasonry, letter cutting, monumental masonry, traditional lime mortars, craft training and the conservation and restoration of vernacular structures.
