Led by the Sauchiehall Street Project team, join us for a guided walk along the full length of Sauchiehall Street, where architecture, hidden histories, and urban legends come to life.
From the golden age of retail to mysterious tales like the fate of the Stone of Destiny, this walk uncovers the rich social and cultural heritage woven into the street’s fabric.
As you walk the full length of Sauchiehall Street to the Charles Memorial Fountain, you’ll learn all about the street’s architectural heritage and the hidden histories behind its buildings.
From rise and fall of retail, to urban myths about what really happened to the stone of destiny – join the Sauchiehall Street project team to hear about the people who made Sauchiehall Street and its social and cultural heritage, as well as plans for the future of the area.

Overview
Sauchiehall Street: Culture and Heritage District is a bold 10-year plan to renew Sauchiehall Street.
With funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund UK-wide Heritage Places programme, and in partnership with Glasgow City Council, this initial discovery phase is working with cultural organisations, businesses and communities to celebrate the past and plan for the future by:
Uncovering its roots: examining the stories that shaped Sauchiehall Street’s history. Animating the streets: hosting events and activities that bring people together. Renewing its charm: revitalising historic buildings to sustain our communities.
Sauchiehall Street is the spine of the project, bookended by the Mitchell Library and The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. The project also takes in the adjacent streets: Bath Street and Renfrew Street, as well as the Garnethill community.
In September, our Project Space will reopen and invite members of the public in to learn about the street’s heritage as well as bring people into the conversation about their memories of place and the future.
Building – In the building, we offer tea, coffee and biscuits, as well as a space to fill up water.
Walk – As the walk is outdoor, we will not have access to a toilet, however, there are businesses near by with toilets or who sell drinks.
