The School of Life Sciences at the University of Dundee is the top University for Biological Sciences research in the UK. Our research complex houses this work which aims to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying health, development and disease. This includes the early stages of the development of medicines for diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, malaria, tuberculosis, neurodegenerative diseases, cancer and inflammatory conditions.
For Doors Open Days there will be a drop-in art workshop with Janice Aitken and the Life Music exhibition will be available to view.
Janice Aitken is a Dundee-based artist and is sharing her brand-new exhibition, life music, in LifeSpace.
Janice has worked in collaboration with scientists for over 20 years on a wide range of projects from illustrations for major scientific papers and journals to exhibitions of digital works and an animated video learning tool based on the eukaryotic cell. For this exhibition she has created a body of work inspired by biological forms that also incorporates elements of synaesthesia, psychedelia with a little bit of science fiction thrown in.
Also featured is a group of works created in collaboration with Dr Mattie Christine Pawlowic whose lab research potential treatments and prevention of cryptosporidium infection.
On Sunday 28 September, we are offering the exciting opportunity to participate in a drop-in art workshop led by Janice. You will be able to create your own collage inspired by the research of the School of Life Sciences and the art works in the exhibition.
