Since its creation in 1883, the Alliance Française has made a massive and original contribution to the development and influence of the French language in the world. 829 Alliances Françaises are now established in 135 countries, and offer quality teaching, international certifications, but also a cultural offer inseparable from the learning of the French language. The Alliance Française quickly played an important role in France, notably through its Parisian theatre (rive-gauche), created in 1956\\. Over the decades, it has known different names for different types of programming.
