Self-guided tour of the ancient church of the Assumption (Santa Maria Assunta), current parish chur…
It is the former church of the Assumption, the current parish church of Saint-Barthélémy. It dates from the 2nd quarter of the 17th century. Rebuilt in 1620, remodelled in 1627, it has a three-storey baroque bell tower with lantern. The bell tower will be destroyed 3 times by lightning (April 1847, November 1876 and November 1904). It fulfilled the functions of a parish church whose title is still held by the Saint-Barthélémy church far from the village. Erected as a parish between 1646 and 1740, it then took the name of Saint-Barthélémy. It contains ninety-six works and objects listed in the General Inventory of the Cultural Heritage owned by the municipality, including the statues Madonna and Child (16th century, 1st quarter 17th century) which would come from the old convent of Tuani (Costa), and Saint Anthony and the Infant Jesus 17th century), given to the commune by a monk of the convent originally from the country. https://balagne-corsica.com/patrimoine-culturel/eglise-paroissiale-de-santa-maria-assunta/
