Overview
The museum of Jouques is installed in the former chapel of Saint-Jean, occupied by the White Penitents until the beginning of the 20th century, On the ground floor are presented scenes of domestic life, rural and craft life: the kitchen, the bedroom, the shoemaker’s workshop, the carpenter’s tools, the tools and instruments of the winemaker, the beekeeper, the farmer .... On the 1st floor are exposed:
- a remarkable collection of ex-votos (from the 17th to the 19th century) originating from the chapels of Notre-Dame-de-Cconsolation and Notre-Dame-de-la-Roque,
- objects found in medieval silos,
- works of art: paintings, sculptures...
- antique clothes,
- a collection of toys In 1912, following the numerous disorders caused by the earthquake of 1909, transformations were made: creation inside the chapel of a wooden gallery, opening of a bay and sealing of the two windows to install a cooperative store. In 1985 the municipality allocated the premises to the "Friends of Jouques" to set up a museum displaying the objects found in the Maison Brignon, acquired by the commune, and the ex-votos of Notre-Dame-de-Cconsolation. The opening of the museum on the south facade has been replaced by the current glass roof. The latter features a stained glass window signed Brière dated 1998.
