Overview

Built in 1860, the castle "Les Lauriers", was owned by the Gradis family, Jewish shipowners of Portuguese origin, settled in Bordeaux for several centuries. Witness to a rich past, linked to the maritime and commercial history of Bordeaux, this building, purchased by the Caisse Primaire centrale de Sécurité Sociale in 1948 was converted into a convalescent home and finally became in 1989, the only museum in France dedicated to the history of social protection.
