Slí na Feirdhis – Way of the Wild Rose & an Aquatic Ecology Guided Walk
Join a 1.5hr walk with Ecologist Alan Balfe of Tralee Bay Wetlands following an ecological corridor connecting the Rose Garden in Tralee Town Park to the epicentre of ecological restoration in Tralee Bay Wetlands Ecology Park. You will find a complex mix of habitats supporting large amounts of wildlife including our native, Wild Rose.
A fantastic opportunity to discover the diverse ecology that exists within the urban area of Tralee and its fringes. Find out about the huge efforts from local community groups, in conjunction with Kerry County Council, to protect, regenerate Biodiversity in the town and the county. This Guided Walk will additionally focus on general Biodiversity including elements of terrestrial ecology associated with the aquatic habitats.
The tour begins in the town park following onto a section of Lee Valley Walk, along the river that gave Tralee its name then reaching 22-acre site Tralee Bay Wetlands Eco & Activity Park, unique park promoting ecological restoration, environmental stewardship through a mix of education programmes and outdoor activities.
Q&A Session will follow your Guided Walk with Dr Noel Mulligan Consultant Ecologist for Tralee Rowing Club over tea, coffee. Discussing the works that the National Parks & Wildlife Services does to protect Irish Wildlife (Habitats and Species), what is being done to designate, monitor, protects the sites for Wildlife Protection including our local Nature Reserves, SACs and SAPs. Noel will provide introduction to the hundreds of protected sites in Ireland, ten of which are located in the vicinity of Tralee.
All participants of walk will also have entry / access to the 20-metre viewing tower which gives a most spectacular panoramic view of the greater Tralee Bay a Special Area of Conversation.
This guided walk is a collaboration between Tralee Rowing Club and Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre with support funding from LAWPRO.
