Overview

We are excited to announce that Sligo Children's Community Garden has received funding from LAWPRO for our Rainwater Project, Sprouting Stories.
The rainwater system is nearly complete, and we have even found ourselves welcoming the rain this summer as we look forward to the benefits this project will bring. This initiative aims to positively impact the local water catchment, enhance community well-being, and promote sustainable water management. It also encourages self-sufficiency, especially during potential dry periods, if that ever happens!!
Artists Ruth Le Gear and Melissa Culhane have already led some fantastic workshops this summer as part of the garden’s initiative. These intergenerational workshops included activities such as rainwater meditation and collaborative river drawings, which were a great success. Kids’ Own will join us in the garden in August to facilitate follow on intergenerational workshops focused on rainwater and its uses. Kids’ Own associate writer Jo Holmwood will join Ruth and Melissa for these exciting and informative workshops which will build on the engagement that took place in the summer. We are excited about the upcoming sessions in the Story Shed during heritage week and we will showcase the creations during Heritage week on 25th August where the theme is “Connections, Routes and Networks”. We will also have a talk about our rainwater harvesting system and its benefits on the day.
We are excited to showcase the creations made during these workshops. Bring your family and some food to share, and see what we have been up to over the summer.
