Built in 1826, St Mark's is a beautiful Georgian building at the heart of Portobello. Through the 200 years it has been altered to reflect the fortunes of Portobello and to respond to the needs of the congregation and community. It has recently reopened after a 7 month conservation and renewal project, restoring it to its original beauty and highlighting its Georgian heritage and ensuring modern facilities for a wide range of activities.
Information booklets and displays of recent work, including booklets for children; come and discuss the changes that have happened with members of the church team; coffees and teas available
2025 Doors Open Days Theme - Architectural Heritage: Windows to the Past, Doors to the Future
The recent renovation has used traditional methods of conservation and is an interplay between the history of the building and the needs of the 21st century. It enables us to see how history can be reinterpreted and renewed to ensure a unique historical church serves the community for future generations.
