St Peter’s Church was built in 1836, a simple classically proportioned building on an East West axis with a stone tower and spire on St Peters street. The building which was refurbished in 2009, has a well-lit interior with a three sided gallery on cast iron columns and two arts and crafts stained glass windows on the West end flanking the central platform (previously a raised pulpit, and organ). It was designed in the reformed tradition with the emphasis on hearing the Word of God. Robert Murray McCheyne was the minister of this church until his death in 1843.
