Stolen youth: the unknown history of the Malgré-Elles
Author and director: Nina Barbier, 2022 Production: Day for Night & ECPAD, with the support of the Ministry of the Armed Forces, the Eurométropole de Strasbourg, the CNC and the Procirep-Angoa In 2008, 15,000 Alsatians and Mosellanes were officially recognized as 'forcibly incorporated in Germany during the Second World War'. A first documentary, made in 1998, traced the story of these women «Malgré-elles» and initiated the fight for their recognition. The film 'Stolen Youth' looks back on this period, with a new and updated approach. Built around unpublished testimonies of survivors and the words of experts, enriched by archives never shown to date, the documentary offers an expanded and contemporary vision, integrating the German point of view and giving a voice to the new generations.
