Overview

Explore how our ancestors used stone carving to express their identities and connections to the wider world. Centred on an exciting new exhibition, Speaking Through Stone: Munster’s Ancient Stone Carvings, this event will include:

• Demonstrations of ancient carving techniques by Victor Daly, master carver (11-1pm, 2-4pm)

• Demonstrations of digital recording techniques by Gary Dempsey, Digital Heritage Age (11-1pm, 2-4pm)

• Clay workshops on ancient designs for children (7-12 years), Susan Herlihy Ceramics (11-12:30pm, 1-2.30pm, 3-4:30pm). To guarantee a place contact Susan by text: 0879028186.

A collaboration between Cork Public Museum and UCC Archaeology Department’s Digital Atlas of Early Irish Carved Stone (DAEICS) project, this event is funded by the National Monuments Service, in partnership with the Heritage Council, through the Irish Research Council.
