Stone wall conservation at Jamesbrook, Saleen
Low level old stone walls stretch from the bottom of Poulnabibe Hill, a short distance west of Saleen village, along the shore of Saleen Creek and westwards to East Ferry. The walls form a barrier between the salt water estuary of Saleen Creek and the roadway from Saleen village to Jamesbrook, onto East Ferry.
The walls, dating from the 1800s, are constructed using red sandstone which is predominantly laid in a vertical fashion. Over multiple phases, Saleen & District Residents Association has worked to conserve the walls in the same style as the existing wall, including the use of lime mortar.
During the Heritage Week event, a stonemason will demonstrate the materials and techniques used in conservation of the walls.
