Strathnaver Museum is a community run local history museum exploring the story of north west Sutherland in the context of the Highland Clearances.
Looking to explore vernacular architecture and building practices with a focus on longhouse construction. Potential to link with NSCFT at Rosal. Sustainability lessons from the past, how we preserved Church building as part of 2022 refurb. eg. traditional lime mortar etc. Link to ICH in relation to craft skills possibly get some crafts people in eg. Marta Sienkiewicz to run stained glass workshop.
Memorials and monuments – gravestones, Farr Stone, Cist / funerary practices. Modern memorials eg. Wind harp, The Unknown, Loss, drownings memorials
Annex and ground floor in former church building are wheelchair accessible. Virtual Guide available covering lower ground floor and first floor.
