Overview

According to the legend, Saint Clement, first bishop of Metz in the IIIth century, would have struck down a terrifying dragon which frightened the Messins: the Graoully. The construction of the church of Saint-Clément was launched in 1683, but the hostilities at the end of the century, the occupation of Lorraine, as well as military requisitions, did not offer ideal conditions for the progress of the site. During the Revolution, the church was closed. In 1822, the bishop of Metz attempted to return the church to parish worship, but his efforts were in vain. It was only in the 1970s, after the departure of the Jesuits and during the renovation works of the Pontiffroy, that the church became a parish church. Accessibility
