Overview

Join us at the Royal College of Surgeons for Heritage Week 2024 as we trace the history of RCSI, exploring our national and international impact. Dr Ronan Kelly will take you on a journey from the origins of surgical medicine to modern-day RCSI for a talk on Wednesday, 21 of August at 17.30. Bodysnatchers, Surgeons and Insurgents all form the vivid cast of characters in the history of RCSI through its contributions to almost to a near-quarter-millennium of surgical, medical and societal change. See how the past of RCSI informs this now global institution and the development of Dublin’s new medical district as RCSI’S latest chapter. We will also be running a series of guided tours of our historic buildings on St Stephen's Green from Monday 19 to Wednesday 21 August, 12pm. Tours will explore the role RCSI has played in both local and international history, from its formation in the eighteenth-century to the 1916 Rising, through two pandemics and two world wars. The tours and talk will take place in RCSI’s historic home on St Stephen’s Green. For further information visit https://www.rcsi.com/dublin/
